Explore Nelson from the Maitai River
Paddling under bridges and turning the heads of locals and visitors strolling along the scenic Maitai River walkway, this paddleboarding experience is perfect for those who really want a cruisey little trip on a sheltered, calm, easy to access waterway (without waves!), just minutes from the centre of Nelson.
Only paddle-able at high tide, you don’t the chance to do this very often so when it comes, it’s awesome! Follow the river from near the Port right up through the centre of Nelson, stopping for a coffee at our friends at the River Kitchen Cafe along the way if you like, stopping for swims, and returning back the way you came with the tide pushing you along each way.
The Maitai River Paddle is an escorted trip, meaning that our Paddle Nelson crew will be within proximity to you on the water. This is not a guided trip and you will be given all the freedom you want to explore at your own pace.
This is a great trip for kids and small groups, as it is very sheltered and less affected by the sea breeze that we commonly have at the beach.
Also, this is an awesome spot for some fun on our Big Tahuna giant stand-up paddle board too!
