Join us for our Water Safety and Confidence course
Join us for our Water Safety and Confidence course, using stand-up paddle boards as our craft of choice. If you want to learn how to be safe on the water, make decisions about when it is safe to paddle, and know what to do if you or others were in trouble, then this is the course for you.
This course has no cost to you, provided in collaboration with Water Safety NZ, Nelson Harbour Master and Nelson City Council. So please book on and commit to your spot, as places are limited.
You will be asked to join NZ SUP (for free) and complete their online module prior to the day. Our session is a hands on course, covering both theory and practical elements of paddleboarding so please come prepared to be on, and most definitely in, the water.
You need to have a little experience paddleboarding to get the most out of the session and we ask that you are comfortable in the water for this course. We will make sure you have lots of time to ask questions and put your learnings into practise.
What will we cover?
- Kit: Boards & Paddles
- Safety Equipment: Buoyancy Aids, Leashes and more
- Legislation: Maritime Law and SUP SAFE Code
- Environmental Considerations: Weather and Tides
- Decision Making: Forecasting and Observation
- Paddling in Wind: All Weather Paddling Tips
- Rescues: Self and Assisted Rescues and Towing
Want to develop your paddleboarding skills?
This session is not a lesson, so if you want to develop your forward paddling skills, technique and learn how to manoeuvre your board, learn support strokes, deal with wind and chop, book in for a 1 to 1 or small group lesson with us by emailing info@paddlenelson.co.nz.
